itzcôâtl:1.\ITZCOATL sorte de poisson appelé robalo par les Espagnols et izcohuatl par Hernandez.R.Siméon qui donne la variante 'izcoatl'2.\ITZCOATL 'serpent d'obsidienne', être mythique.En composition la racine la racine itz- ou itzcôâ- semble désigner un motif décoratif qui orne les sandales portées par certaines divinités, Tezcatlipoca ou Chiucnâhui Itzcuintli (Cf. itzcactli, l'interprétation espagnole de Sahagun dit: almenadas, crenelées Sah IX cap. 17.) ou bien certains palais (Cf. itzcôâcalli) ou encore certains manteaux (Cf. itzcôâyoh). Le motif lui-même porte le nom de tlaitzcôâihcuilôlli.
